There is a lot to say and I’m not sure what I want to say. I will start out just going about haphazardly typing away and see what this post will become.
I have a new iPad Pro and I love it. My uncle helped me pay for this state of the art machine. As art machines go, it is the absolute best according to a lot of professional artists and illustrators. As luck would have it, the stylus that will be able to make the art happen has not arrived yet and should take another month or so before I get it. I can’t really get any artwork done with it yet, but I can test things out and see where to go with my work once the stylus gets here.
I have decided to finish coloring my next comic book, ‘The Meditation’ on the iPad Pro with Procreate. I tested some things out with it and I just can’t wait to get the rest of the book done and colored on this tablet. Actually being able to work on screen with a drawing tool will revolutionalize my working method. I will finally be able to see what all those great artists have been able to see when doing digital artwork on a Wacom cintiq.
For ‘The Meditation’, I have decided to add it on as the next chapter of ‘Angel Messages of Light”. I know I have said that it would be a standalone thing, but the further I got into it, the more I realized I was making another Angel Messages of Light book. I had put it off for a while to work on other things. It is a funny thing with the creative process where I will make something and then run out of steam, almost as if the project just does not want to be worked on. I realize now that that is always for a good reason. The creative process is a part of divine inspiration and I believe that if there is a tapping into a creative well, a tapping into a higher or more profound place, that sometimes delays happen to allow for growth in other areas. How is one to create something they don’t have the divine inspiration or support for?
For me, it seems that the brakes are put on in order to allow me to grow a part of my soul or spirit or just to allow for better timing for a project. Sometimes the unforseen new tool or tablet is necessary in order to make the work happen in its best way and so the work will be blocked until that tool is available. It can be tough to feel inspired and driven to create something and to be given the red light- cosmically or worldly or energetically. I just want to finish a lot of my projects so I can start another one. I am good at starting new things, but finishing and working all the way through is the tough part, especially when there are a lot of different parts to the whole. A series of pages for a book takes a long time. One painting takes a long time and to try to get all of the paintings done for one illustration project requires lots of time and patience and perseverance.
I have two oracle decks that I can’t wait to finish on this iPad. They will be the easiest projects to finish in the long line of projects I have to finish, but I have to wait for the crazy good stylus to arrive first. Perhaps I can work on a booklet to go along with each deck in the meantime. These decks are very unique and I think work in a way that has some profound but simple reading mechanics. I designed the decks with my guides to be simple and straightforward and to encompass some of the normal parts of life. They are really simple to use and at only 23-24 cards each, you shouldn’t have any trouble remembering all of the meanings.
I may be able to finally finish my first attempts at making an oracle. I have not been inspired to work on it to the end because it was so intense in terms of workload and I was still learning the ins and outs of good paintings and good oracles and illustrating large quantities of things at once. I am calling my first attempt ‘Power Oracle’ for now, as a code name of sorts until I get the final idea of what I want to call it. ‘Power Oracle’ has very highly detailed artwork that takes a long time to finish. One painting in that deck will take anywhere from 1-3 weeks to finish, and there will be 44-50 or so cards when it is done. I did not know what I was getting myself into when I started that one. Now with this new device, I may be able to cut work time down to a day or two, especially now that I am more experienced with my art making.
My children’s book, which I have been working on behind the scenes- on and off for several years at this point- will be done in watercolor and colored pencils, and on illustration board that is 15×22″. I will definitely need to get access to a large format scanner of some sort before I will be able to get it onto a computer to add text and edit and all of that. Most children’s books are 32 pages to fit publishing standards. That works out to about 24-30 or so finished paintings I think. It is my first children’s book and I am working as well as I can to add tons of care and attention to it. It is fun to think of the possibilities for children’s books.
I have a lot on my plate and a lot to get used to in terms of being an illustrator. I also have a lot to get used to in terms of being a card reader. I have finally finished the ‘Certified Angel Card Reader’ course by Doreen Virtue and Radleigh Valentine. I will get a review posted soon. I learned a great deal and I felt like it was worth the money that I will be paying for several more months. I was not expecting to sign up for that course for a long time; then I got an offer from Hayhouse or Doreen in their mailing list for $33/month for 10 months and I jumped on the offer. I had been wanting to sign up for the course since it first became available. It seems like waiting for that was a good thing too, because they added more material at the end to make it better. I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into, but I am glad I finally filled in just about all the gaps that I had in my reading skills.
I do want to try to do readings regularly at some point. I definitely want to get some up on the blog soon; but I think it would be best for me to finish some illustration projects first and to practice some more on myself. I do feel good about my skills and I feel like I made enormous amounts of progress over the six week course. I had to give one reading a week for the six weeks the course lasted.
On another note, my lizards laid two more clutches of eggs recently. I have finally separated them so no more babies will be possible. I don’t know what I am going to do with more lizard babies and I don’t think I like the idea of having to buy crickets every week or so. The eggs are incubating at the moment and should be another month or so before the first of the two new clutches hatch. I don’t know how many will survive in the first clutch, because the container they were in got bumped and almost knocked over. It is tough to take care of that many lizards and I feel the need to give them to a pet store before they are even hatched.
I guess that is all for this post. It turned out to be an update mostly on my work life and project choices. Maybe I will post more posts like this in the coming weeks.
I hope you are all doing well and much luck to every one of you.
Thanks for reading,
Tim Edwin B.
